Take a look here at some of the news & updates surrounding the sector that have caught our eye these past couple of weeks…

Estyn have recently published their latest annual report. It highlights the importance of prioritising teaching and learning experiences in the classroom.

This report is available in both English and Welsh, and can be found through the Estyn website here.

Licence to play music in settings

We have recently received a query asking whether it is required to have a music licence to play music within their setting. The answer to this is yes and is known as TheMusicLicence.

TheMusicLicence allows you to legally play music within your setting through the radio, TV, other digital devices and live performances.

Previously, businesses and organisations had to obtain separate music licences from PPL and PRS for Music. However, these two organisations have now come together to form PPL PRS Ltd and launched TheMusicLicence. This means you now only require one license and ensures that the people who create the music are fairly rewarded for their talent and work.

Useful links surrounding this can be found on our dedicated webpage here.

Welsh Government

The Welsh Government has made £2m available to local authorities to help them deliver play opportunities for children in their areas, Minister for Children, Huw Irranca-Davies announced this week.

Under the Children and Families (Wales) Measure 2010, local authorities have a duty to assess for and then secure sufficient play opportunities for children in their areas. This aims to ensure every child has a wide range of challenging and interesting opportunities to play and enjoy their leisure time.

Funding will also be available to provide play workers with bespoke training on how to recognise and support children and young people with substance misuse issues, child criminal exploitation, self-harm and suicide, and to support transgender young people.

For more information and to read the full statement, please click here.

Welsh Government want your views on the draft additional learning needs (ALN) code and the policy intent for a number of other proposed regulations.

The new legislative framework will help improve the planning and delivery of ALN Wales.

Provide your feedback here.

Consultation ends on 22nd March 2019.
