Your early years news, features and guides round up: 21st – 4th May 2018

Here is our pick of the headlines affecting early years childcare in Wales from the past few weeks…

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be coming into force this month on the 25th May and no matter how small your business is, it is important to comply with the new regulations regarding the secure collection, storage and usage of personal information.

For further support and guidance on GDPR, please visit our new dedicated web page by clicking here.

We will also be confirming dates and venues for some more member forums, where we will be available to answer any questions etc. Please keep an eye on the webpage and our social media channels where we will publish these details as we get them.

Hwb hosts a national collection of digital tools and resources to support learning and teaching for learners in Wales, and is accessible via the Welsh Government website. The tools and services on offer through Hwb are designed to encourage effective digital practices in classrooms and to improve student learning outcomes.

It has been announced recently that there will be major changes planned with Hwb, which may affect some of our members.

Men in Childcare

The lack of men in childcare has been a hot topic for many years. The school leaders’ union NAHT says that there needs to be more male role models for children in the early years education, as there are still only 3% of men involved in this field of work.

The Department for Education says a group has been set up to look in more depth at the number of men working in early years – and consider what more could be done.

How can more men be encouraged to apply for the roles? Follow here for some possible solutions.

Foundation Phase Excellence Event

ICYMI, Wales PPA are holding several events surrounding the Foundation Phase which you may consider useful.

There will be a guest speaker attending, who will provide information about the Foundation Phase Excellence Network and how Hwb can be used to effectively engage and share resources/ideas.

There will be opportunities to attend workshops focusing upon Positive Behaviour Management and Reflective Practice within the Foundation Phase.

Attending these events will be the perfect chance to network and develop new partnerships with others.
