How can the latest issue of smalltalk and a potato have something in common?… believe it or not they do, & here’s why…

As part of our initiative to reduce plastic wastage, smalltalk is now and will continue to be wrapped in potato-starch polythene, which is 100% vegetable-based and is entirely compostable.

You don’t need to put this into your recycling bin – just use garden or food waste bins or even a well maintained compost heap instead.

…& on the subject of smalltalk

Have you entered our recent smalltalk competition yet, members?

This issue, we are giving one lucky Early Years Wales member a bundle of sensory toys & equipment that can be enjoyed by the whole setting!

Closing date is 11th May so get those entries in quick!

If your setting have a responsibility for the delivery of the Foundation Phase, please complete the survey through the link below:

It should not take any longer than 10 minutes to complete and is available in both English & Welsh.

The aim of the survey is to obtain a national picture of how the Foundation Phase is currently viewed & implemented in Wales.

WeCare Wales

WeCare Wales is a major bilingual, multimedia campaign developed by Social Care Wales in collaboration with a wide range of national and local organisations.

The aim of the campaign is to attract more people into working in care, which includes early years and childcare roles, as Wales will need thousands more in the sector by 2030.

One man who is already working in this sector is Matt Milum, a team leader at Early Years Members Abacus Day Nursery in Uplands, Swansea.

Read the inspirational interview with Matt on the Wales Online website, as he talks about his experiences working within the childcare sector and shares the passion he has for it. One quote from Matt that stood out for us from the interview is:

“One of the most rewarding parts of the job is seeing children develop and helping them to learn a new skill or achieve something they’ve wanted to do for a while”
