Parents have been urged to ensure their children have both MMR vaccinations as a measles outbreak has been recently confirmed.

Fourteen people have caught the highly infectious virus in the Cardiff and Blaenau Gwent areas of South Wales.

Adults who have never had measles or the MMR vaccine and who work in close contact with children have also been urged by Public Health Wales to speak to their GP about vaccination.

Scarlet Fever

According to this Wales Online article, early 900 cases of scarlet fever have been reported in Wales in the first three months of 2018, with 332 of these suspected cases occurring in South Wales in particular.

Cardiff saw the highest number of reports in the first 13 weeks of the year with 98 cases, followed by Rhondda Cynon Taff with 77, 67 cases in the Vale of Glamorgan , 58 in Bridgend , 26 in Caerphilly , and 6 cases in Merthyr Tydfil.

Scarlet fever, also called scarlatina, causes a blotchy, pink-red rash and mostly affects children under 10 years old. If a parent thinks that they, or their child, might have symptoms, it is important that they seek medical assistance.
